Prism

New release on Prefecture Records of electro-acoustic solo percussion. Prism is a signal processing environment I developed in Max/MSP to use exclusively with drum kit. These recording were made in real-time with no overdubbing. This group of compositions is a direct result from my interests in using programing and instrument building as a mode of composition.

"The music generated here is notably introspective and attentive to detail. Vittum opens with the mostly ambient "Interval," that rumbles the subwoofer as if the real deal here might actually be happening beyond the audible range of the human ear."
-Mark Corroto, All About Jazz

Tide Tables/Lost Birdsongs

Tide Tables is the music of Paul Kikuchi and Alexander Vittum. The album Lost Birdsongs is the culmination of several years of collaboration, encompassing material which was recorded live in Seattle in 2005 with subsequent recording sessions in New York City. The music reflects both musicians influence from percussionist Milford Graves as well as their mutual interest in electronic music.

“….the music is stunningly beautiful, a highly rhythmic combination of organic and electronic sounds that run the gamut from ambient soundscapes to retrofitted gamelan.” -Seth Watter, All About Jazz NY

"....Beautiful songs of today and tomorrow, unsentimental and direct - highly recommended for cleaning out the cobwebs!”

2010 Innova Records

"The music is gloriously pluri-stylistic, drawing elements from plainsong, classical oratorio, post-Ligeti contemporary music, and even Rock-in-Ppposition (to me, some tracks clearly evoke This Heat for some reason). Melodies are moving, and the project as a whole shows a high level of maturity. Highly recommended."
-François Couture, Monsieur Délire
